I would like to share with all of you something that is less known even to ppl who believes in Kang ki.
Do you know that the "beings" that enters & possesses mediums bodies are not the real god or deities, instead they are the representative or presentational of the real god & deities. For those ppls who has experience with various tang ki(s) would know that, the same god or deities would varies differently in different temples & different tang ki(s). I will explain that later on, if you are confused.
So who are those representative or presentational of the real god & deities? People like monks, priests, cultivated persons & people that do plenty of good deeds during their life, when they pass away they could be appointed to the various positions in the other realms (Hell, Heaven & Buddha land). They are then selected by the gods & deities to be their representative or presentational (代理/分身灵). Like agents representing the company or person. Besides choosing these appointed souls as the gods & deities representative or presentational (代理), enlightened spirits (精) could also be the right candidates. Then these representative will find the suitable person as the medium (Tang Ki or Ki Tang). There are also peoples that will also volunteer to be Tang Ki(s).
If you visits various temples with Tang ki(s), you will realizes that when the Tang ki(s) has represented or invited the same god/deities into their bodies, they will usually have very different characteristics, voice, props, even way of writing the talisman & etc. Some of the representatives that possesses the mediums are more powerful than others, that could because some of them have further their cultivation or has reach enlightenment. That's explains how it's possible to invite the same god at the same time in different temples. They are just the representative or presentational (代理) & not the real gods. Kang ki's are just like the gate of a portal or a media, if the protective procedures is not done properly, they could be possessed by wandering ghosts or other supernatural beings during the trance. They usually need to cleanse their bodies & protect the temple area to keep the unholy things at bay.
There are Tang Ki(s) that are real & authentic, they aims to relieve ppls that needs help. They will even help to heal & cure illness. And there are others that aims for fame & money. There is a possibilities whereby an authentic Tang ki will no longer be able to invite the god's representative because he/she has done something wrong or the body is no longer clean. Then it depend on the tang ki whether he/she wants to continue the service. If the tang ki wants to continue, he/she has to do a good show in front of the believers. I have seen such cases before. Some mediums that practices incorrectly (走火入魔) or their body is unclean, it's also possible that they even get possessed by supernatural beings & they act as though they are the real thing. Instead of helping people, they aim for being worship by the believers.
The most common deities or god of the mediums service in Singapore (in hokkien names)：
Guan Di Ye (关羽/关公/关帝爷 there are other names for him)
Tua Ye Peh & Dee Ya Peh (大爷伯 & 二爷伯. They are the hell gods)
Dai Sheng Ya (大圣爷/齐天大圣/孙悟空/斗战圣佛)
Lian Hui San Tai Zi (那咤/莲花三太子)
Zai Zai (散财童子/红孩儿)
Guan Ying Ma (观世音菩萨/观音娘娘)
Tua Peh Gong (大伯公/福德正神/正财神)
In the past my family members used to go consult them frequently or whenever we are met with troubles or supernatural issues. Only a few of them are very helpful, some are not & many are con-man. So beware, stick to one temple if the medium service is good. Don't tell them too much of yourself or your problems. If the medium is fake, they will know how to make you believe in their in-genuine powers. Just like fortune-tellers, if you tell them too much, they will know how to handle you in order to make you believe they are damn accurate & let you believe in this & that.
My mum has been bring me to this temple called Po Ann Keng since I was a baby. I was very weak & always ill when I was young. She plead the god to accept as the god-son & only after a few tries then the god accepted me. Besides giving me talismens & providing blessing for my health, the old medium has a secret elixir that could cure most minor sickness. The medicine is very demanding among the believers & not easy to prepare. But when the old medium passed away, no one is taking over the preparations of this wonderful medicine. Until today, the temple has operated more than over 50 years & has make swift several times. Now it's residing at Tampines road. Along the stretch of temples. It's very near to where I stay & just opposite Tampines Ikea. The temple is a merge between three different temples, but Po Ann Keng has the biggest space of all. The main god of the temple is 齐天大圣, but not just one 大圣爷 but five. I was told that the center one is the real 齐天大圣, the other four is his subordinates (东天大圣, 南天大圣, 西天大圣 & 北天大圣). They are also in the form of the monkey god.
